Luxury Welsh chocolatier Sarah Bunton's 10 year journey to success

Sarah Bunton started her journey creating skill-fully hand-made chocolates in 2009. Fast forward 10+ years and she is now an award winning connoisseur of the craft with her business (Sarah Bunton Award Winning Chocolatier) and sells her creations as far afield as Japan whilst based at the picturesque Devil’s Bridge near Aberystwyth.

Chocolates and fudge being her speciality, Sarah uses the finest ingredients to create a combination of classic flavours within her delicacies, including many containing authentic Welsh ingredients such as Merlyn Liqueur or Welsh Honey and Truffles. The company has since received a fantastic eight prestigious Great Taste Awards as well as a coveted Gold and Silver True Taste award that really does underline the quality of the chocolates that she produces. The team have gone from strength to strength since 2009, quickly outgrowing their upstairs floor space which led to the conversion of the cafe into a larger production unit. Incorporating a viewing window, she now allows customers to watch the magic happen as the team experiments with delicious new creations regularly. With an adjoining take-away kiosk, Sarah serves luxury Welsh ice cream along with tea, coffee, cold drinks and light snacks. The team also create bespoke items for cafes, hotels and restaurants, even brokering a deal to sell their hot chocolate stirrers to a company in Dubai that supplies VIP outlets such as Emirates Airline.

Alongside Sarah Bunton Award Winning Chocolatier, Sarah now hires out a chocolate fountain under her other company Y Forwyn Siocled (The Chocolate Maid) that has succeeded incredibly well due to such original ideas. Having done numerous chocolate demonstrations at Y Caban for groups such as Merched y Wawr and the WI, she also teaches the delicate art of hand tempering and dipping to create a mouth-watering selection of chocolate treats. Bodnant Welsh Food Centre stocks Ms Bunton's chocolates (Bodnant Welsh Food Centre’s £6.5m base is situated at Furnace Farm in the Conwy Valley) as part of the company’s commitment to support local producers. Sales have been incredibly successful for her at Bodnant as were her masterclasses, but have unfortunately taken a backseat as the pandemic continues.

If you are interested in supporting local business during Covid-19 and trying Sarah's award winning chocolates for yourself, head over to her website where you can order online, or better yet go and see the delicacies being made through the viewing window for yourself, surrounded by the Devil's bridges' rural scenery.
