12:30 - Future prospects for Welsh meat
NFU Cymru Director, John Mercer will be in conversation with Hybu Cig Cymru (Meat Promotion Wales) Chair, Catherine Smith and McDonald’s franchisee Ron Mounsey. This webinar will be a chance to learn about Catherine and Ron’s perspectives around the opportunities to sell and promote Welsh red meat to new and existing markets following the UK’s departure from the EU and the trade opportunities that presents.
Royal Welsh Treefelling Competition
Every year the RWAS holds a chainsaw logging and treefelling competition somewhere out in the woodlands of Wales. This years’ competition is a two day event which is taking place in one of the RWAS woodlands in Llanelwedd. The competition is split into 3 sections “Expert” (previous competitors over 25), “24 years & under” (previous competitors 24 & under) and “Newcomers” (those who have never entered the competition before, of any age).
All competitors must must the necessary qualifications to compete. The competition consists of 5 disciplines that all relate to an operation performed by a forest worker during a working day. Fitting a new chain, accurately crosscutting a log that is either on the floor or is resting across another log, plus felling a tree and limbing (removing branches). This promotes precision chain saw use within the industry.
19:00 - ‘Tom and Sprightly’: Dr Wynne Davies in conversation with David S. Davies
Join Dr Wynne Davies (M.B.E., FRAgS) as he is interviewed by his son David and recalls the history, characters and winners of the prestigious ‘Tom and Sprightly’ trophy during the last fifty years at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, with an opportunity to see a gallery of highly prized winning Welsh ponies and Cobs.
